Ravana Falls, located near Ella in Sri Lanka’s Badulla District, is one of the widest and most beautiful waterfalls in the country. Cascading from a height of about 25 meters (82 feet), it flows down a rocky cliff surrounded by lush greenery, creating a spectacular natural sight — especially during the rainy season when the water is at its fullest.
Named after the legendary King Ravana from the ancient Ramayana epic, the falls are believed to be part of the area where he hid Princess Sita in a nearby cave, now known as the Ravana Cave.
The waterfall is easily accessible from the Ella–Wellawaya main road, making it a popular stop for travelers. Visitors can enjoy the cool mist, natural pools, and scenic mountain backdrop — perfect for photography and relaxation.
It’s best to visit in the morning or after rainfall, when the water flow is strong and the surrounding jungle glows with rich greenery. However, swimming near the rocks can be dangerous due to strong currents, so caution is advised.
Ravana Falls beautifully combines nature, legend, and adventure, making it a must-see attraction on any trip to Ella.
