Located in the sacred city of Anuradhapura, Lankarama Stupa is one of the serene yet historically significant monuments built during the reign of King Valagamba in the 1st century BCE. This stupa, though smaller compared to others like Ruwanwelisaya or Abhayagiriya, holds immense religious and archaeological importance as part of the ancient Theravāda Buddhist monastic complex.

Originally constructed to enshrine sacred relics of the Buddha, Lankarama was surrounded by a circular structure supported by stone pillars — suggesting that it was once enclosed by a vatadage (a roofed circular relic house), similar to Thuparamaya. This architectural style highlights the artistry and devotion of early Sri Lankan builders.

Set amidst peaceful ruins and shaded by tamarind trees, the site exudes tranquility and spiritual calm. Today, pilgrims and visitors come here to reflect, meditate, and connect with Sri Lanka’s ancient Buddhist heritage away from the crowds.

Lankarama stands as a quiet reminder of the island’s enduring faith — a place where simplicity, devotion, and history come together in perfect harmony.
