The Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastery is a modern Theravāda Buddhist monastery network founded in 1999 by Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero in Sri Lanka. Its main goal is to preserve and share the original teachings of the Buddha in a way that is easy for people to understand and practice in daily life.
The monastery offers a peaceful and spiritual environment, ideal for meditation, reflection, and learning. Visitors can attend Dhamma talks, participate in mindfulness sessions, and interact with friendly monks who guide both locals and foreign visitors.
There are over 80 branches across Sri Lanka and many abroad, including a beautiful monastery near Ella, surrounded by serene hill-country landscapes. The temple grounds feature stupas, meditation halls, and scenic viewpoints, providing a quiet escape from the bustle of tourist towns.
Mahamevnawa Monastery is a place where one can experience Buddhist culture, find inner peace, and connect with Sri Lanka’s spiritual heritage in a calm, welcoming setting.
