Located in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, near Nuwara Eliya, Horton Plains National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the island’s most breathtaking natural landscapes. Sitting at an altitude of over 2,100 meters, the park is famed for its rolling grasslands, cloud forests, and rich biodiversity — home to many endemic plants, birds, and animals such as the sambar deer and purple-faced langur.

The highlight of the park is the world-renowned World’s End, a dramatic cliff with a sheer drop of nearly 870 meters, offering panoramic views that stretch all the way to the southern coast on clear mornings. Another major attraction is Baker’s Falls, a picturesque waterfall nestled amidst lush vegetation.

Horton Plains is also the source of three major rivers — the Mahaweli, Kelani, and Walawe — and plays a crucial role in Sri Lanka’s watershed ecosystem. The 6–9 km trekking loop through misty trails and open plains provides visitors with an unforgettable experience of highland wilderness, cool climate, and unspoiled natural beauty.

With its rare flora, scenic trails, and otherworldly landscapes, Horton Plains National Park stands as a sanctuary of tranquility, biodiversity, and adventure — a must-visit destination for hikers, nature lovers, and photographers exploring Sri Lanka’s hill country.
