Point Pedro (Paruthithurai in Tamil) is a quiet coastal town located at the northernmost point of Sri Lanka, in the Jaffna Peninsula of the Northern Province. Known for its windswept beaches, fishing villages, and historic landmarks, Point Pedro offers visitors a glimpse into the simple beauty and resilience of Sri Lanka’s northern coast.

The town is famous for the Point Pedro Lighthouse, built during the British era, which overlooks the turquoise waters of the Bay of Bengal. Its scenic coastline is dotted with coral reefs, coconut palms, and local fishermen bringing in their daily catch. The nearby Holy Trinity Church and remnants of colonial buildings reflect the area’s deep-rooted history and cultural blend.

Point Pedro is also significant for its strategic and geographical importance — it marks the northernmost land point of the island, just 30 km across the sea from India. The region is known for its textile weaving, salt production, and agriculture, especially the famous red onions of Jaffna.

Today, Point Pedro remains a peaceful coastal retreat — less commercialized, yet rich in charm, history, and authentic northern life. It’s a perfect stop for travelers exploring the Jaffna Peninsula, combining scenic beauty with cultural depth.
